I've been eager to make more of my big, dramatic, silk wrap tribal style earrings for months now, finally doing it!! This batch is the result of a couple days of "wire wrestlin' " and visualization....
This earring style starts with (for most) long 16 or 14 gauge solid copper ball pins we've made in advance. The copper wire pins are the main body of the earring. I create the designs in one of two main styles; the "earwire" as part of the design, or a basic, French hook style wire is added later. Here, I've got two of each.
After all these elements are cleaned, oxidized & polished up, they'll be wrapped with recycled sari silk, some of which you can see in the background. I ordered some new colors a little while back, so I'm excited about trying them out...in particular, that iridescent reddish purple in the left of the above photo is just fantastic!! Then, they get wire wrapped in oxidized copper wire, with my signature glass seed bead "studding" and whatever gemstone embellishments rock the boat harder!
Hopefully, I'll have these ready for the Monsoon Art Storm at the Douglas, AZ Art Gallery this Saturday, the 25th!
Cloudcroft, NM....soggy & cold. This was the 3rd summer I've tried a show there, I'm thinking that considering all costs involved, it's simply not worth it. It's too bad, I'd love to have a "mountain show" to do in the summer that was profitable AND got me out of the desert heat for a few days!
Many years in the past, we did shows up in middle Arizona...White Mountains, Prescott, Pinetop/Show Low area. Maybe next year, I'll try something in that area again.....or just hibernate the summer away with cold beer & the dunk tank! :)
Heading north out of Las Cruces to Alamagordo, then Cloudcroft on Friday to set up....not lookin' good!
Ahh, the "event" Sunday afternoon....downpour, thunder, lightening...hail, even!
Well, at least the plants are happy.... :)
